Rustic Style |
The pieces in my portfolio that fall into the rustic category are typically characterized by the following:
Designs that have a definite country-look, very little ornamentation or molding details, and joinery which may purposefully be made to look crudely-fashioned.
Lumber selection tends towards knotty wood, wormy wood, spalted wood, or reclaimed materials.
Some portions or perhaps all of the piece will feature "live edges", which showcase the original, natural edges of the sawn lumber and give the project a much more organic feel. This characteristic is often seen in rustic tables and fireplace mantel beams.
Finishes are often distressed to simulate years of use, and in some cases, no finishes are used at all.
