Chairs & Benches |
Building most types of chairs, such as Windsor, Shaker, or Chippendale designs, requires years of focused effort and specialized tooling in order to build quality products. Part of the reason for this is that chairs take more abuse than probably any other type of furniture. They must support loads many times their own weight, and these loads are dynamic, which means the stress points are constantly shifting during use.
Being mindful of the issues described above, I have very carefully limited the selection of chairs that I elect to build. The Arts & Crafts style chairs shown below are well within my comfort range since the mortise and tenon joinery is extremely strong and will stand the test of time. The Adirondack chair design I build has been through a number of refinements and has shown itself to be very rugged. I'm confident you'll be satisfied owning any of the designs shown on this page.

Rustic "Live-Edge" Walnut Crotch Bench Starting with two stunning pieces of bookmatched walnut crotch lumber, this bench was constructed with boards that all came from the same tree. Every component of this bench still has "live edges", with the light-blonde natural edges of the boards blending into the rich, dark brown color of the walnut heartwood. The symmetrical "feathery" pattern of the walnut crotch makes this bench truly one-of-a-kind!! Available for immediate purchase. |
