The increasing popularity of the new front-loading energy/water-saving washers and dryers has created the opportunity to re-imagine the usable space in a laundry room. In this project, the area on top of these appliances has been converted into a spacious countertop for sorting and folding clothing. Storage cabinets at the back edge of the countertop help organize laundry supplies such as detergents, fabric softeners, etc. And finally, the presence of the appliances has been concealed altogether through the use of a set of bifold-style cabinet doors, which can be fully opened and slid to the side when the appliances are in use.
