Wainscoting dramatically changes the appearance of a room and gives it a much more formal look. Like high-end cabinetry, the center panels in each wainscoting section can be solid raised panels or flat recessed panels. The paneling can be painted as shown in the above photos or you can elect to install stained hardwood wainscoting. Wainscoting installations are generally tied in to the door and window moldings, creating a unified look to all the molding and trim in the room.
Installation of wainscoting can be complicated by the spacing of electrical outlets, heating/cooling vents, and other items that may have to come through the paneling.
Wainscoting height (from the floor) is typically in the 30 to 36 inch range. Otherwise, room size dictates the overall dimensions of the wainscoting installation.
