Contemporary Flat-Panel TV/AV Stand |

After reviewing the offerings available from numerous manufacturers, this contemporary TV/AV stand was commissioned by a client in Houston. This unique stand provides a stylish platform on which a large flat-panel plasma television can be mounted as well as providing four equipment bays which will house the various electronic components of the client's home theater system. As happens in many cases with my custom-built furniture, this project incorporates a number of different design elements that the client encountered in various pre-manufactured products:
Elegant tapered legs, mounted at angles on the stand, give the piece a far more intriguing visual appearance.
The tapered legs are accentuated further with the use of mottled makore, ebony, and birds-eye maple veneers.
Non-rectangular top and bottom panels on the stand contribute to it's contemporary, non-traditional feel.
Inclusion of an extremely sturdy riser panel to support a large/heavy flat-panel TV, allowing the TV to be moved along with the AV components to another room location, if desired. However, that riser assembly is easily removable in the event the client wants to wall-mount the TV instead.
Maple was the species selected to give this stand a nice contemporary feel, which also helping to accentuate the darker accent veneer colors. The shelves in the AV storage bays are adjustable to handle various sizes of equipment and holes in the back panels of the stand allow the wiring inter-connects to be hidden from view. Finally, the large wood panel on the TV riser is designed to accommodate a metal flat-panel TV wall-mount bracket - those brackets, in turn, allow the TV to be tilted and even slightly swiveled while still remaining firmly secured to this stand. The mounting location and cantilever design of the TV riser insures that the weight of the TV can never cause the stand to become unstable or tip over.
60" wide, 25" tall, and 24" deep.
