The corner entertainment center shown on this page was designed and built to house an intermediate-sized home theater system. Bookshelf units flank both sides of the corner TV section and base cabinets are used to house the home theater components and provide additional concealed storage. The cabinets are constructed of solid maple and maple veneered plywood, plus the addition of quilted maple veneer on the cabinet door center panels and applied end panels. The veneered panels were carefully arranged so that each pair of cabinet doors has a bookmatched appearance.
Other custom features on this project include arched rails at the tops of the bookcase sections, media storage roll-out trays in the lower left cabinet, heavy duty TV swivel to accommodate the 300+ pound TV, custom-sized valance around the TV and center-channel speaker, and solid maple crown and base molding. In order to achieve a clean, uncluttered appearance to the overall design, concealed Euro-style door hinges were used and the doors were crafted with finger-pull edges so that no door handles were required. This approach insures the viewers focus is always drawn to beautiful quilted maple doors.
The finish on this entertainment center is a caramel-colored stain on the light maple lumber, followed by two coats of semi-gloss lacquer. This finish did an excellent job of highlighting the figure in the quilted maple, as seen in the photos above. Enclosed cabinet interiors were finished in a natural maple color to help brighten the interiors.
As a final aspect of completing this project, I installed all the electronic components of the home theater (42" television, AV receiver, DVD, CD, Cable TV, and multi-room speaker system). Once installed, I then tuned/calibrated the speaker levels in the main listening room for optimal surround sound performance.

Cabinet pricing is dependent on a wide variety of factors that can drastically alter the final cost. Cabinet quantities/sizes, material selection, construction methods, accessories, and finishes all impact the pricing. The maple entertainment center shown on this page cost approximately $4,400, including materials, labor, and installation. Electronic component installation and tuning was not included in this pricing.
