Description

This simple set of cherry cabinets, built into a wall alcove, was designed to match the color and tone of  a set of  Curly Cherry Loudspeakers designed and commissioned previously by the client.  The upper section of the cabinetry houses an audiophile-grade turntable with a massive granite base along with portions of a large LP collection.  This section is enclosed by framed glass doors with retractable pocket-door mechanisms so the turntable can be easily accessed during use.  The bottom section of the cabinet houses a number of other pieces of electronics associated with the stereo amplifier system.

There were several engineering challenges associated with this project.  First and foremost was the installation of the shelf that supports the high-end turntable.  Weighing more than 100 pounds, this massive piece of audio gear must be securely supported and yet acoustically isolated from any type of vibration that would introduce noise into the output signal.  Creating a "floating platform" that would support this kind of weight was no easy task.  The second challenge was fitting some shallow shelves in the upper cabinet section that would not interfere with the retraction of the pocket doors.  Once installed, these shelves provided storage for the "current favorites" in the client's extremely large library of LPs.
