Description

A previous client was interested in obtaining one of my keepsake boxes, but was looking for something more ornate and distinctive.  We decided to add some carved details to the project, and after reviewing a number of possible carved patterns, selected the Celtic knot design shown in the above photos.  Celtic knot patterns are fascinating because if you trace the path of the winding, interwoven design, it forms an endless loop - they are available in a number of different variations.

All four sides of the box are engraved with the Celtic pattern.  The corners are accented with an interlocking box-joint.  To provide a strong visual contrast, some highly figured African mahogany lumber was combined with figured maple (curly maple/birds-eye maple) for the raised-panel box lids.  Polished solid brass hinges and felt feet complete the design.

As indicated in the photos above, the box made from mahogany and birds-eye maple was provided to the client but a second box was built utilizing these same design elements, but with striking curly maple instead of birds-eye.  That box is available for sale.

Approximate Dimensions

These boxes are 14" long, 8" wide, and 4.5" tall.  They can be built in other sizes, in conjunction with the position and scale of the carved Celtic knot pattern.
