These unique cabinets were custom designed to complement the contemporary-styled master bathroom in the client's home. The symmetrically designed installation includes "his and hers" vanity sink cabinets and associated drawer stacks for storage, all of which are cantilevered above the floor so they appear to float. The center section of cabinetry has a lowered countertop to serve as a makeup counter, with two drawered pedestals at the bottom and two upper tower cabinets flanking a central mirror. The cabinetry is "topped off" with an upper bridge element that houses halogen accent lighting which illuminates the makeup counter. The curved front edge of the makeup counter is also echoed in the curved front facade of the lighting bridge.
After reviewing a number of species of dark-colored wood, the client selected quartersawn wenge veneer, which has a natural dark-chocolate color and a very straight grain pattern (see photos above). These characteristics complement the clean simple lines of the contemporary cabinets. All drawer boxes in the cabinetry are dark-finished mahogany riding on concealed undermount slides with soft-close mechanisms. Hidden Euro-style door hinges and polished chrome hoop-type handles all contribute to the uncluttered nature of the cabinetry.
Other upgrades and options in this project include a set of matching wenge-veneered front panels for the whirlpool bath platform and two solid wenge mirror frames for each vanity sink. In addition to the halogen lighting in the tower cabinet bridge (controlled by a hidden touch dimmer), the cabinetry also includes accent lighting beneath the cantilevered side cabinets, which further accentuates the floating appearance of the design.
164" wide, 87" tall, and 22" deep.
